Day One of the Sale

We just finished day one of the sale. I found a cast iron skillet, some glassware for my daughter to paint and some Dismey movies for my grandchildren. Went to signal mountain. The scenery was unbelievable and the people were very friendly. Cathy got a cup and saucer,a couple of candle holders and some plates for a craft she is planning. Went to Gengis Grill for dinner. Having cherry pie for desert since it's my birthday. It has been a good day!

On The Road, Finally!!!!

Finally, we are on the road. Downloaded 500 rock n roll songs to listen to. The back seat is full of snacks,pillows,drinks and Cathy sitting in the middle of it all. We are all threatening not to come back. Will keep you updated.

Finally, We Leave In 2 Days

Two days to go before we leave. Bags are packed, snacks are bought and we (again I say it) can't wait to get on the road. We have birthday dinner tonight. I am enjoying my grandchildren, daughter and son in law, here from NC. Their visit will make the wait til Wednesday easier.

10 Days To Go

Only ten days left til we leave. I got the car serviced for the trip. I had to have some things fixed that I didn't expect,but I knew the repairs were coming,so it is just as well done before the trip.
I Ordered a shopping cart for our loot. It's
better than I thought it would be. My husband put it together and it's already in the trunk.
I fear that it will be a long week at work. I will be busy because it is the end of the month. Hopefully being busy will help.

13 Days Til we Leave

I'm having the car serviced tomorrow, taking care of some of the details in preparation for our trip. Only 13 more days til we leave. Yipeeeee!!!!!

15 days to go

I'm a little concerned about the heat wave that is socking it to the middle of the country.  It's hot here too, but I hear that people are actually dieing from the weather.  The world is strange these days. I'm still excited about the trip. We will take plenty of bottled water and pace ourselves.  We will be fine. Texted with an old friend from high school this morning.  He lives in Fort Payne, Alabama and wants to have dinner the night we are in town.  The yard sale goes right through there. He told me about the golf clubs he got for a steal on year.  It should be fun to see an old friend and catch up.

16 More Days

16 more days until we leave.  People at work are asking to look for things like plastic Smurf toys. I guess I better make a list so I won't forget. Some people shake their heads and others act like they want to go too. I think it will be an experience that we won't forget. Looking forward to it.

17 Days til We Leave and Everythng is Falling Into Place

Just 17 more days. I went to get my driver's license renewed this morning. It was going to expire on the 4th, after our leave date of August 3rd. What a pleasant experience!  The Delray Beach Florida office of the Tax Collector was so friendly and helpful!  I had a appointment so I was taken right in. The girl behind the desk, Cathy, was very pleasant and informative. She had heard of the "World's Longest Yard Sale" and wished us luck on our trip. I got back to work in less than an hour and the picture they took looks better than the one from 8 years ago! All seems to be right with the world today! I know I keep saying it, but I am so excited to leave on the trip!

19 Days and Counting

We leave in 19 days.  Still working out the details.  Everyone that we talk to says that it will be hot, hot, hot!!
 I ordered some Coolee Scarves today from the Little League ball field concession stand. You are supposed to put them in water and they get really cool. Then you wear them around your neck and they keep you cool. My friend whose son plays ball, says that they really work. Friends are giving us lists of things to look for. One collects tea pots. Another wants glassware.  I have a list made and my camera ready. Can't wait to leave.

Leaving in 28 Days

It's still a go for our trip to the yard sale.  Only 28 more days until we leave. Everyone is so busy working extra hours to make extra cash for the trip that we haven't gotten together lately. I got up early this morning  and watched video's of past sales. It got me even more excited to go on this trip. Still need to book a vehicle. I am getting worried that we won't get a good deal if we wait much longer. I'm a planner and a worrier, I guess.

38 days till we leave

I went to Walmart today and looked at different snack items we can take with us on the trip.  I know what Ilike but I don't know what Cathy and Marsha will want. I decided to wait for them to decide. Cathy is working every spare minute to make the overtime for the trip. She works so hard. I don't know how she does it sometimes. It's a rainy, cloudy day here today. Oh, that reminds me, I need to pack a poncho for the trip. It's on the suggested list of things to bring along.  I personallly thnk that if it is supposed to be soooo hot up there, the rain will feel good. I like walking in the rain.  I just don't like lightening.  Did I mention there are only 38 more days till we leave?

39 Days til we leave....I Miscounted Someplace

We are still making plans for our big trip. I 'm going to start buying water and snacks for the car. We read that it's smart to have something in your vehicle for times when you are stuck in traffic. I also learned from someone that has been before, that prices are inflated on food and drinks in some areas. If we buy some snacks now, the expenses will be spread out and we can take advantage of sales. I am a planner, so this makes me feel more comfortable.Both Cathy and I are Weight Watchers and need to plan ahead for snack attacks. A cooler in the care will insure that we can take some fruit with us. Don't bet me wrong, I plan to eat some of the local food along the way. I plan to enjoy myself, just not go overboard.

Countdown is still on.....

We were online last night, looking for more information about the yard sale. We are a little troubled by the things we are reading about lack of restroom facilities along the route.  It seems that businesses put "Out of Order" signs on their bathrooms. There was even one person that wrote "take your own toilet paper". I can do that but, I hope it is because when you find a bathroom there is none in the stall. I am not up for finding a place to squat. We are still excited and hungry for any information we can find. I talked to a client yesterday who has attended the yard sale and she had a good time. She said it's worth going. She said that the heat was pretty bad, but we expect that. She also said she would go again better prepared than last time.

Interesting News (42 more days)

I just found out that a high school friend lives in Fort Payne, Alabama. He says that the yard sale goes right through his town. I lived in Alabama as a child (Huntsville) and know the name "Fort Payne" from Alabama's Christmas song "Christmas in Dixie" I hope to be able to talk  with him some more before the trip to get his impressions and any tips he might have. By the way, 42 more days until we leave!!!!Is it insane to be so excited about a yard sale trip? Oh Well!!!

43 Days Til We Leave

Only Forty-three more days till we leave on our trip. I went to Pier One Imports tonight to pick up a birthday gift and started talking to a couple about the trip.  The wife, had once lived in Tennessee and has friends that have gone to the World Longest Yard Sale and loved it. By the way, the sale is also known as the Highway 127 Yard Sale.  It stretches, we have read, from Michigan to Alabama. Over 600 miles of yard sales. It seems to me that it would be impossible to drive the whole route in the alloted four days. It sure would be fun to try though. LOL  The Couple also told us about a must see site in the Chattanooga area. They said we had to go to the top of Signal Mountain while we are there. I'm not much for heights, so I don't know about that. I know that the countryside will be very pretty and I have heard that the people are very nice. Can't wait.

World's Longest Yard Sale: 44 days until we leave

World's Longest Yard Sale: 44 days until we leave: "There are 44 days left until we leave on our big adventure. So far we have booked hotels, looked at maps and are in the process of deciding whether to rent a car or drive one of our own. I am completely comfortable driving my car but Cathy doesn't want to put the miles on it. We need to make a decision soon and take advantage of the good rates for advance rental. We found out that Cathy's sister Marsha will be joining us. We are happy she can come. We are going to have a blast!!!!

How This All Started

I first heard of the World's Longest Yard Sale while watching an HGTV program that covered the 2008 show. I thought then it would be fun to go someday, but I didn't think there would ever be much chance of my going. Nevertheless the idea has always hung out in the back of my mind. Recently I reconnected with my best friend from high school and somehow the yard sale came up in conversation. I don't know who said it first or how it came about, but we are going to the 2011 yard sale. She is the one who thought it would be a hoot to Blog our trip. I thought we should start with the days leading up to the actual trip. We are in the planning stages right now. We have no idea what to expect. We have been reading everything we can and looking at all the pictures of past sales that we can find online. We know its supposed to be hot. Well Duh! It's in August, that's a given. Besides, we are from South Florida. We know hot! We know we will see some funny sites and some interesting sites. We will see lots of junk and find some cool things too. We keep telling each other that we are going with no expectations and are just going to go with the flow. It will be a girls "Road Trip" and I know we will have fun. There are 45 days til the 2011 World's Longest Yard Sale officially starts and we are excited!!!
